ISM’s PhD alumnus Tewelde Mezgobo Ghrmay published an article in the European Journal of Business and Management. The title of the article was “Tesco: Losing Ground in the UK Case Analysis.” The paper analyzes “why, Tesco, after dominating the UK retailing for about 25 years, is losing market share? Although the UK and global economic recession created a negative impact on the retail industry, Tesco’s competitors are doing well in relative terms.”

Furthermore, he states that “Tesco, the largest retailer in the UK and third in the world was identified as a symbol of success by authors like Marr (2009). However, its performance started to decrease in its UK operations in 2000s. The reason for this phenomenon has been attributed to the recession problem that started in 2008. This is due to the fact that the negative impact of the recession drained the income of shoppers.” To read the full article, click here.
